Die Tour
A local ramble which can be undertaken either direct from HPB properties or from Viehhofen village centre. Partly out and back, level apart from a modest ascent from the village parking area.
From HPB walk down the path on the far side of the access road, cross the little bridge over the stream and descend the minor road past Förstereck to the bus stop. Continue along the roadside (or on the far side of the road) to Viehhofen village. Cross the river on the Kendlach Bridge, opposite the general store, and rise to the upper car park.
1. Turn sharp right above the car park. There is a 'Schmittenhohe' sign. At a junction in 50m turn left; there is a 'Waldweg 3' sign. At another junction in 30m. with a similar sign, turn left again. Cross a tiny footbridge over a stream and continue along a gravel path, rising gently. At the next signposted junction, follow 'Waldweg 3', soon descending. There are occasional views of Viehhofen and the tennis courts. Pass a seat, go through a gate and descend to Burgstein Farm. Pass to the left of the farm, through a little gate and go left down the farm access roadway. Cross a bridge over a tributary stream to reach a bridge across the River Sallach.
2. Do not cross the bridge; carry on along a broad rough track, with the river close on the left. Pass a winter sports area, along a riverside grass track. Go through a gate to stay close to the river, passing seats and soon reaching Anderhaus Bridge.
This is the end of the riverwide walk. There are now two options:
a) to cross the bridge and return to Viehhofen and HPB by the roadside.
b) Probably better - to return by the riverside path to the bridge below Burgstein Farm. Cross the bridge and turn left immediately along a track behind wooden buildings, joining the valley road opposite the colourful 'Viehhifen' sign. From here the distance to the village centre is about 500m. On the far side of the road is a useful track largely separated from the carriageway. Return to the car park or walk by the roadside to HPB.
