Hochkonig Trek - Walk day 6 - Ascent of Mt. Jenner

This is a demanding day; it’s mostly uphill with some very steep parts. Certain sections are along open mountainside where there is no shade from the heat of the day. From the town of Golling at 485 metres you walk along a minor tarmac track towards the mountain for about 35 minutes. The next stretch through the forest follows a well-marked trail before you start your steep ascent to the mountain hut at Unterjochalm. After pausing to catch your breath, strike uphill again through the forest to reach the welcome sight of your lunch stop on the Austrian/German border at the mountain hut at Carl v Stein 1736 metres. Start to relax and reflect on the wonderful week’s walking as the final part of the trek to the cable car station at Jennerberg climbs only a further 100 metres as it winds its way around the contours of the mountainside. Finally you arrive at Jennerberg for refreshments & wonderful panoramic views, then a chance to sit down for 25 minutes in the cable car to descend to your final night back in Königssee. Remember to take your cable car voucher with you today. Last cable car descent 17.00 (or 16.00 in bad weather) - but check for changes to these times.
